Green Haven Men’s Club

Code of Conduct

The intention of this policy is to establish clear and acceptable behavior for members of the Green Haven Men’s Club (The Club). It is not intended to restrict the rights of anyone but is meant to ensure that all members, guests, volunteers and employees of Green Haven Golf Course are treated with respect when involved in any activities of The Club.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors or those appointed by the board will deal with any matters pertaining to the conduct of members. Any members whose conduct is improper, offensive or endangers others, property of the course, or the good reputation of the Green Haven Men’s Club may be subject to warnings, suspension, or expulsion as determined by the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

·         Members must adhere to all by-laws as posted on the Green Haven Men’s Club web site. No member shall use the excuse of not having a copy or access to the by-laws. If a member would like a written copy of the by-laws, he can request one by contacting the club secretary or president.

·         Members are responsible to post their scores after all rounds of golf, including tournaments; the ProShop does not do this for you. Scores can be posted at the ProShop computer, through the GHIN app on a smart phone or through the GHIN website on any computer. Anyone can view other members posted scores at any time. The handicap chairman will be randomly checking posted scores. If at any time it is determined that a member of The Club has not been posting their scores, it will be brought to the board for potential disciplinary action. The GHIN handicap index is calculated daily. In order to have an accurate handicap index, scores must be posted the day a member plays a round. Any member not posting their score on the day it’s shot is considered to be manipulating the member’s handicap index.

·         Members are expected to turn their cards in immediately after a tournament round or risk disqualification.

·         Members are expected to play in at least three events to be eligible to play in the Club Championship. Thursdays count as an event.

·         Be respectful to those you encounter including all employees, members and guests. Do not engage in discrimination or harassment of any kind. Do not use offensive language, gestures or insults to others. Do not threaten, intimidate or disrespect others.

·         When using social media referencing the The Club, do so in a respectable manner that is not offensive and is in accordance with this code of conduct policy.

·         Members are representatives of the Green Haven Men’s Club as well as Green Haven Golf Course and when participating in events at home or away are expected to represent The Club in a respectable manner that does not damage The Club or any member of The Club’s reputation.

·         On the course members are expected act in a sportsmanlike manner and to follow rule 1.2 of the rules of golf which reads:

All players are expected to play in the spirit of the game by:

·         Acting with integrity – for example, by following the Rules, applying all penalties, and being honest in all aspects of play.

·         Showing consideration to others – for example, by playing at a prompt pace, looking out for the safety of others, and not distracting the play of another player.

·         Taking good care of the course – for example, by replacing divots, smoothing bunkers, repairing ball-marks, and not causing unnecessary damage to the course, such as breaking a flagstick.

There is no penalty under the Rules of Golf for failing to act in this way, except that the Board may disqualify or take disciplinary actions against a member for acting contrary to the spirit of the game if it finds that the player has committed serious misconduct.

Complaints/ Appeals

Complaints reflecting improper behavior as outlined above must be submitted to the President Elect in writing (email is acceptable) and signed by the person making the complaint. The President Elect will then bring the matter to the Board of Directors which will review the complaint and determine if disciplinary actions are warranted. If disciplinary actions are determined to be taken, a board member will notify the aggrieving member by phone and by email or postal mail. The member being disciplined has the right to request an appeal by submitting in writing (email is acceptable) the request to the President Elect. A Board meeting will be set as soon as possible for the appeal to be heard at which time the member bringing the appeal would present his case to the Board. After the appeal is heard, the Board will make a final decision regarding the disciplinary measures. The President-Elect will then contact the member and inform him of the Board’s decision. This contact will be done by phone and in writing (email is acceptable) in a timely manner.
