Happy New Year:

If you have not heard, the city council for the City of Anoka will be discussing the possibility of a fairly large project at Green Haven beginning towards the end of the 2022 golf season. The information for the project will be able to be found on the city website with the following link:

https://www.anokaminnesota.com/307/City-Council

to the council agenda page. Usually it is posted by Wednesday or Thursday the week prior to the meeting. This meeting will be held on the 2nd floor of city hall in the work-session room at 5 pm this coming Monday January 10th. I believe it’s important for your groups to know what is proposed and what might occur if the project were to move forward. I also believe it’s important that the city council hears from your groups, either for or against. It would be a big enough project that it could change the character of the course for decades to come. I have summarized the project below, but the council information packet that will be posted later this week will have all the information. The project will consist of the following:

·         Adding a double ended driving range with a total of 45 hitting stations and as many as 10 heated all seasonal hitting stations.

·         Adding a chipping and pitching short game practice area

·         Adding an expanded new practice putting green

·         A total of 6 new holes, 9 new green and an additional 103 yards added to the overall length of the course

·         Fixing the remaining bunkers to match all new bunkers

·         Installing a continuous cart path from the 1st tee through the 18th green

This is a summary of the project, but it does not come without some pain. The course would be approx. 9-holes for nearly 1 ½ years. The construction, if approved would commence sometime late this year and be finished and  ready for full play at the beginning of the 2024 season. The project’s construction would be done to coincide with the impending construction on Highway 10 over the next two summers.

As representatives of your organizations I will let you forward this message, or your own message to the members of your groups. Although I am excited about the project, it will affect the city of Anoka and Green Haven Golf Course long after I am gone. So I believe it’s important for your group’s voices to be heard, either for or against. Respond to this email with any questions regarding the meeting or the project.

Have a great day!
